A walk through the salt flats of Jan Thiel

After the slavery period the plantations, also the salt flats were no longer in use. The salt was transported to Holland for the herring fishery. After 300 years the salt flats of Jan Thiel are still in excellent condition. During 2,5 hour walk you will see an unique flora and fauna. Jan Thiel bay is for many years one of the residence places for the flamingo’s. Harvesting of salt is over and done on the island of Curacao, but even today you can still pick up the salt. It looks as if we are walking on ice, but you don’t need your winter coat
